The Future Blessings of Israel and the Church
God’s calling of Israel is presently set aside. Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD. This serves as a symbolic setting aside of the Jewish people. God did not take Israel’s blessings and hand them to the church, yet that is what many think and teach.
Romans 11: 1 I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not!
Jesus Christ will be the King of Israel to the saved Jewish remnant upon His return at the end of the Tribulation. He is also the Messiah of prophecy to Israel, the Anointed One promised in covenant from God to rule from His throne in Jerusalem. All Jesus’ characteristics relate in some way directly to Israel.
- The prophet promised by Moses
- The Melchizedek Priest who blesses Israel after the defeat of their enemies.
- The Messianic King of the Jews.
All these are fulfilled on earth during the Millennium according to prophecy.
Because the Jews rejected Jesus when He came the first time, God blinded them to the truth of the Gospel and gave the Gentiles an opportunity to accept Jesus as their Savior.
Romans 11: 25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.
God still has a special place for the Jews and will return soon to establish them as His chosen people. But in our current age, God is now dealing with the believers of Jesus Christ – his church. During the Millennium, the saints will rule with Jesus.
I Corinthians 6: 2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world?
The church – all true believers in Christ – are made kings and priests. We are made priests because we are “in Christ” and have unlimited access to the Father. We will be kings because we have been given thrones of authority on the earth.
Revelation 5: 10 And have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.
All this is a result of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ on the cross for our salvation.
Once Jesus has taken the church to heaven at the Rapture, God will once again recognize Israel as His people and fulfill His ancient promises to them.
The church and Israel. The are separate entities with separate blessings as defined by God. The church will rule and reign with Christ in our glorified bodies. Israel will be the premier nation on the earth with Jesus reigning from Jerusalem. This is God’s perfect plan for the ages. So come quickly, Lord Jesus! Maranatha.
