The Beginning of Sorrows
Birthpains prophetically refer to convulsive events regarding governments, geographical events, astrological signs and world wide social-economic events scheduled to occur in the time leading up to Jesus Christ’s second coming. These are likened to contractions experienced by a woman about to give birth. These birth pains increase in frequency and intensity the closer it gets to the time of birth.
Jesus uses the word “sorrows” in His Olivette Discourse to describe end-time events to come.
Matthew 24: 3 – 8 3. Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the signs of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” 4. And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5. For many will come in My name, saying, “I am the Christ,” and will deceive many. 6. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8. All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Birthpains are already being felt. Jesus commanded us to watch for these developments.
Mark 13: 37 “What I say to one, I say to all: Watch!”
Violence Luke 17: 26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be also in the days of the Son of Man.
The Bible describes the days of Noah like this:
Genesis 6: 11 The earth also was corrupt before God and all the earth was filled with violence.
From supposedly civilized nations like the United States with its population burning its own cities and curtailing the efforts of the police to glorifying the evils of society, to bombings and rockets in the Middle East, we are definitely experiencing sorrows.
Pestilence Matthew 24: 17b and there shall be famines and pestilence and earthquakes in divers places.
Businesses, schools and churches are closed because of the fear of spreading disease. Food supplies are being interrupted because factories are closed and transportation halted. Isolation is definitely a sorrowful situation.
Nations in Distress Luke 21: 25a and there shall be signs and upon the the earth distress of nations with perplexity.
The nations are asking, “Who can solve this world-wide epidemic that has wreaked havoc with the world economies?” Send us the man to unite the world for the common good of all. The United Nations has plans for a one-world government to be in place called “The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
False Prophets Matthew 24: 4 – 5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, “Take heed that no one deceive you. For many will come in My name saying, ” I am the Christ and will deceive many.”
False teachers come in the name of Jesus, but distort the true gospel. They claim the title of Apostle with direct, one on one correspondence with Jesus. They perform false healings and proclaim they know the way to make this ungodly world a better place to live. Our world is rejecting Jesus and suffering the sorrows of it’s own human efforts.
In these trying times, take refuge in Jesus. The darker the world becomes, the more we can rejoice, because we know it only means that our Savior is that much closer. Rejoice!
Luke 21: 28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.
Maranatha! O, Lord Come!
